Next to the brain, the heart is the most important organ of the human body. Cardiology is constantly making progress in terms of knowledge and methods of treating heart defects – both congenital and acquired. In many cases heart abnormalities are treated immediately after diagnosis if they pose a threat to the patient’s life. These defects consist of abnormal connections between the cardiac chambers and vessels to which they are directly connected to. Improper anatomy and functioning of heart valves are also common. Acquired defects can be caused by endocarditis or change of configuration of the heart. Congenital, in turn, are formed during fetal development.
Cardiology focuses not only on congenital and acquired heart diseases, but also deals with blood vessels. Cardiologists are therefore interested in the entire circulatory system and so-called cardiovascular diseases. In addition to ischaemic heart disease and heart failure, modern cardiology is also occupied with arrhythmia, but according to available data, atrial fibrillation is also prevalent. In our clinic cardiological surgeries are performed by Dr. Janina Skrzypek-Wańha.
